The Exchange Building, build in 1933, was erected for the shipping firm of Messrs. Mann, George & Co. The reinforced concrete frame structure is situated at the corner of St. Georges Mall and Waterkant Street. Resting on a base of dressed stone with a plinth of black polished granite, this historic building in Cape Town is located on one of the city’s busiest pedestrian intersections.
The prominent tower structure that used to dominate the buildings aesthetic, used to be used as a flag room. Surrounded my myth and legend, many people still believe large amounts of gold are stored below the building is some of its’ many high-security vaults.
