Beach Houses at St. James

R550.00R1,500.00

These colorful Victorian-Style beach huts, over the years, have become iconic features of the beach side suburb of St James and form an important part of the areas character. As the popularity of the local beaches grew during the turn of the century, the need for decent change-room and toilet facilities became inevitable. The original row of shacks and tin huts that lined the beach front were soon demolished and replaced with the standardised bathing boxes we see today. The small timber structures are rented out to the public by the municipality for a nominal fee. The bold hues of these beach-side buildings have long been etched into Cape Town identity and have become synonymous with travel to South Africa’s ‘Mother City’.
