In the 1990’s a delegation from Saudi Arabia visited South Africa on behalf of the royal family. The intentions of the trip were to leave a legacy in the newly formed South Africa. They bought the West Street land and plans were put in place for a new Mosque to be constructed.
Designed by Egyptian architect, Abdel Wahed el Wakil, the building strikes a fine balance between traditional Islamic architecture, such as pillars and domes, with modern Western design elements. The distinct contemporary form of the multi-domed mosque is off-set by two minaret’
