In 1817, St. Marcellin Champagnat, a priest from France, founded the Marist Brothers, with the goal of educating young people. Over the years to come, many Roman Catholic schools were Established all world wide. St David’s Marist was established in 1941 by the Marist Brothers.
The Building that is featured in this print is Marcellin Champagnat Hall . It was opened in 2000, the year of the canonisation* of St Marcellin Champagnat. The hall can seat the combined school of approximately 1200 boys for masses and assemblies.
* Canonization is the act by which a Christian church declares that a person who has died was a saint, upon which the person is included in the “canon”, or list, of recognized saints.
