University of Cape Town

R550.00R1,500.00

Founded in 1829 as the South African College, the University of Cape Town (U.C.T.) is the oldest higher education institute in South Africa. Following more humble beginnings, it wasn’t until 1928 that the university moved to its current location at the Groote Schuur Estate on the slopes of Devil’s Peak. The main teaching campus, known as Upper Campus, echoes the sentiments of its principal designer JM Solomon in 1919 when he said “The new university which architecturally is to come into being at Groote Schuur has natural advantages in the beauty off its site unsurpassed by any similar institutions in the world”. Upper Campus is centered around Jameson Hall (the location for graduation and other ceremonial events) but includes residences Fuller Hall and Smuts Hall as well as the faculties of Science, Engineering, Commerce, and Humanities.
