Cheviot Court is considered to be one of the best kept examples of the widespread infiltration of the Art Deco movement in Durban during the 1930’s. Adorned with a central spine which is painted in contrasting colours to the rest of the building the buisling is typical blend of art and architecture that is synonymous with the Art Deco movemt. Giving rise to a number of beautifully adorned and decorated buildings in the area, the styling on the Art Deco buildings reflected the different backgrounds of the city’s population, some with a strong emphasis on a maritime historty, others reflecting the interests of Muslim traders.
